Terms and conditions apply – please ask the specific vendors for details.

Who can apply?

If you receive any of the benefits listed below you can apply for a One Card at a concessionary rate. You are required to provide evidence of receipt of benefit(s). You may have to ask the agency to supply appropriate evidence to support your application (such as an Award Notice or Letter of Entitlement). No other information will be accepted.

Qualifying benefits

  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Jobseekers Allowance (income-based only)
  • ESA (Employment Support Allowance (income-based only)

Under 16 only

  • Disability Living Allowance received by children under 16, at the High Rate Care or Higher Rate Mobility Component

How to get your card

Complete an application form, ticking the box for Concessionary One Card. You will also need to request a concessionary rate and choose a method of payment (Direct Debit or annually). Take your completed application and Direct Debit form (if appropriate), together with evidence of receipt of benefit, to a council leisure centre reception. If you apply through the data sharing form then your application will be processed straight away, if you are applying with evidence submitted then the application will take up to ten days to process as the application will be sent to our head office to be processed. Once your application has been validated we will contact you to make arrangements for you to purchase your concessionary One Card.

Important information

  • A data sharing agreement is in place with the IW Council Revenues and Benefits departments. Applicants need to complete the benefit authorisation form which will allow 1Leisure to request a YES or NO to your eligibility for a Concessionary One Card.
  • ‘Screen dumps’, benefit books, Jobseeker Allowance agreements or letters that do not describe an ongoing benefit will not be accepted as proof of receipt of benefit.
  • If your benefit award includes other dependant members of your household, for example children, they too may apply individually for a Concessionary One Card. Simply provide evidence to support their application; this must state the dependant’s name and date of birth and show the same address as the main benefit recipient.
  • It may take up to ten working days for an agency to issue evidence of receipt of benefit and they may ask that you request the information in writing.
  • The Isle of Wight Council reserves the right to refuse the issue of any Concessionary One Card if you cannot provide the required proof of eligibility.
  • When choosing to pay by Direct Debit or annually, an interim payment will be required to cover the period between taking out the card and the first Direct Debit payment. This can be paid by cash, cheque or card.
  • You are required to have an induction before using the Tone Zone (new members only).
  • You must notify 1Leisure immediately if your circumstances change and you cease to receive the benefit that qualifies you for a Concessionary One Card. You may continue to have your One Card subject to the payment of the appropriate fee.
  • Information you disclose will be treated in confidence. Access to your personal information is restricted.
  • All terms and conditions of the One Card apply.
  • All unlimited use is subject to availability.
  • Not all activities and facilities are available for pay-as-you-go Concessionary One Card holders.

Criteria and evidence

The criteria and evidence needed with your application for a Concessionary One Card is listed below.

When approaching an agency for evidence, you need to ask them to supply you with a Letter of Entitlement or Award Notice. The evidence must be addressed to you, state the type of benefit you receive and be dated within three months of your application to this scheme.

What Is Exercise On Prescription?

Exercise on Prescription is an exercise referral scheme operated by the Isle of Wight Council’s 1Leisure in partnership with GP’s and health professionals across the island. It is administered through the IW Public Health’ WELL BEING SERVICE REFERRAL team who have contacted all of the Island’s GP’s and health professionals to create a very simple process to make sure that the people who need it are getting exactly the the help they need.

your GP or health professional is always the first step.

They may then refer you to call the WELLBEING SERVICE REFERRAL team on 01983 823670.

1Leisure are ONE of the potential outcomes of speaking to your GP and/or health professional and then being directed to the WELLBEING SERVICE REFERRAL team.

1Leisure comes under SUPPORT WITH PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Other avenues that they might direct you to are:

WEIGHT LOSS SUPPORT

STOP SMOKING SUPPORT

Why exercise?

Regular exercise reduces the risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. It is also good for mental health and can help improve mood and confidence, relieve anxiety and release endorphins to make us feel happier.

How do I join?

STEP 1 – Suitability

Speak to your GP or health professional about the suitability of exercise on prescription. They will direct you to call the Public Health team on 01983 823670. The Public Health team will help assess suitability and complete a form on your behalf that will be sent to 1Leisure.

STEP 2 – Leisure Centre

As part of the process you will be asked to choose your most convenient 1Leisure venue. The Exercise on Prescription coordinator from that site will then contact you to get you started.

STEP 3 – The Consultation

You will get a tour of the site from our referral coordinator. They will also run through a lifestyle and medical questionnaire to help understand the best way to get the most out of your visits. Please remember to bring along your recommendation form and a list of any medication you’re currently taking.

STEP 4 – The Programme

As you will be given a Gold One Card your programme could include swimming, water workouts and fitness classes as well as Tone Zone gym sessions.

What should I bring?

After your initial consultation please bring a towel, water bottle and wear comfortable, appropriate clothes for exercising in (Ideally training shoes, t-shirt or sweatshirt, shorts or tracksuit bottoms). Changing rooms and showers are available at all 1Leisure centres.

Where do I go?

The Exercise on Prescription scheme is operated at all three Isle of Wight 1Leisure facilities which makes it easy for you to choose the most convenient for you. There is free parking at Westridge and you will receive a permit to park for free at Medina and The Heights while you are on this programme.

Prices

The Exercise on Prescription programme offers HALF PRICE membership for the first four months of your Gold Card. For a standard DD Gold Card membership this would be:

ADULT £19.25 per month

JUNIOR £8.10 per month

These prices include unlimited use of the facilities and all of the visits considered necessary by the Exercise on Prescription coordinator.

If you receive certain benefits you may qualify for a discounted rate – please ask the Exercise on Prescription coordinator for more information.

If you are a Health Professional who would like to find out more about referring to the Exercise on Prescription scheme please contact the WELLBEING SERVICE REFERRAL team on 01983 823670

If you would like to be considered for the Exercise on Prescription scheme but your GP is not currently able to refer to the Exercise on Prescription scheme please contact the WELLBEING SERVICE REFERRAL team on 01983 823670
