Why I Chose 1Leisure

Six years ago, I made the move from Southampton to the Isle of Wight. Before relocating, I had worked incredibly hard to lose 12 stone—going from 26 stone down to 14. I knew that maintaining my weight and fitness would be essential in this new chapter of my life.

Discovering 1Leisure
As luck would have it, The Heights Leisure Centre was just around the corner from my new home. After researching 1Leisure, I signed up as a Gold One Card Member and quickly made the gym a regular part of my weekly routine.

Following an induction and some 1-2-1 training sessions I used the gym at The Height three times a week, enjoying my sessions in the gym. Box n Pad sessions with Charlie became a highlight—great for my cardio, coordination, and confidence.

A Life-Changing Setback
But everything changed last March when I underwent major abdominal surgery. What should have been a 10-day recovery turned into 13 weeks in hospital and nine operations. I lost a lot of strength, but the fitness I had built up helped me survive.

The Road to Recovery
Coming home from hospital was tough, I was weak—but determined. I started walking daily and, after getting the all-clear from my surgeon in October, I began my journey back to fitness.

I started with aquacise sessions with Tina at The Heights. Then, I booked 1-2-1 sessions with Lauren, who carefully designed a gym plan around my physical limitations. Her understanding and support were invaluable. Eventually, I was able to return to Box n Pad with Charlie at Westridge. We worked together to rebuild my strength, balance, and coordination—this time with the help of a balance dome!

A New Routine, A New Life
Now, at 70, I’m back to three sessions a week across The Heights and Westridge—and feeling stronger than ever.

If you’re looking for a place that truly supports your journey, no matter your age or challenges, I can’t recommend 1Leisure enough.
